Plan to replant as soon as humanly possible in a large hole with good composted soil. Give the plant a nice soaking with water, but don't expect much from the plant that year. It will be busy making good roots beneath the soil. Lupines love full sun and well draining soil.
Growing lupines is simple. Give the plants plenty of water through August. Aphids love lupines--the best choice is to try and attract ladybugs; otherwise, spray them with a light solution of water, vinegar and a few drops of dishwashing liquid. After the flowers have faded, cut off the blooms. This is called "deadheading," something just about every plant needs.
